Something that I have been hearing a lot is that the older the lore you find the more accurate or powerful it is. If it is written in different ancient languages or hard to read glyphs then we have ourselves an unbeatable magic or energy manipulation system. We have ancient books dug up from some site of historic importance and then quoted perfectly in the hopes that the material from there is some lost and all powerful magic system. the key idea to this thinking is that the older, the more difficult, the more powerful the system has to be.
Is old lore really this way? To answer this question I have an example I would like to show.
Males have more teeth than females in the case of men, sheep, goats, and swine; in the case of other animals observations have not yet been made: but the more teeth they have the more long-lived are they, as a rule, while those are short-lived in proportion that have teeth fewer in number and thinly set.
This Paragraph was pulled from Aristotle's philosophy he wrote entitled; The History of Animals Aristotle the Greek philosopher academic and spiritual leader to the greeks. He was a great thinker in his own time. Note that I did say for his own time. He is highly accredited for being a very learned man for his time and a great figure of history but this does not make the statement listed correct. Future findings proved him wrong. If he had bothered to count the teeth he might have found that men and women do have the same amount.
Some might stand on the fact that the level of science was not as up to date as it is at our time and we are speaking in spiritual terms. My question to all of you out there with this standing is that if one so respected such as Aristotle was not even concerned about doing something so simple as just counting the teeth...how can you accept that the lore that goes into much more difficult and complex ideas are going to be accurate then? We know that old scientific facts stateed at one time that the Sun revolved around the earth. Wouldn't that the old facts such as this have a rather a drastic effect on the old mystical lore that ancient peoples were looking into?
The basis for any spiritual path is for advancment. Peoples are drawn into it and they advance as they do the system itself must as well or it will stagnate and die off. Greater understanding of a path leads to easier methods of working within it. This is common sense. Paths evolve like shaping stone into a magnificent sculptures the excess rock is taken off so that more of the pure form beneath it can be shown. We can see this in the way of energy is manipulated and can beging cutting out excess ritual and spells with any given style you might choose. Do those things work? Yes they do and sometimes very well but, they are not always needing to be as complicated for the same effects to work.
Old books have their uses and do have some interesting things in them. Some of the material is correct and foundational to energy manipulation or spellwork. There is much in those texts however that is just excess work and in my opinion it hinders spiritual progress with its over complicated theories. it is that excess stone that doesn’t need to be bothered with once understood that it doesn’t belong there.
I will tell the cold truth here..I can’t read any Greek. Nor can I vocally speak Latin for hours a time as it is supposedly the mystical language of power according to some paths. My meditations do not involve uncomfortable and rather silly looking positions. Instead of burying myself in the books and ways of the old I have chosen to experience things and work them out by Counting the teeth.
Experience will show what is needed and what is not. A mentor that has gone through these experiences themselves is quite beneficial to those just starting out. There is a lot of material out there volumes of writings have been made for the explicit purpose for Spiritual paths..they do no good though until the actual event has been has been experienced, and even in then one’s experience will be different than another’s.
To only lock yourself into the old lore means that you are taking extra steps that might not be necessary or even correct in some cases. You can read all you want, volumes upon volumes of information is out there but until you start counting your own teeth you won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
